FAQ

Defect Investigation Reports in Berwick: common questions

Can I use this report at VCAT?

No. A defect investigation report is prepared for you and your builder. The Building and Plumbing Commission dispute resolution service (formerly DBDRV) and VCAT require an expert witness report written to the VCAT practice note, which is a separate engagement.

What is outside a defect investigation?

No destructive opening of walls or floors, no engineering certification, no soil or geotechnical testing and no repair work. If the finding needs an engineer, the report states that plainly.

My floor feels uneven. Is that worth investigating?

Yes, if doors have started binding or cracks are appearing too. We measure the variation and look underneath for the reason, rather than guessing from the room.
